Tobacco is actually a food. Though hazardous if smoked, it’s leaves contain a number of nutritional substances that can help sustain life for a time if no other food is available.
It is also true that many things which are potentially good can become harmful and bad. Your speech has the potential for good, but through cursing and the use of vulgarities it can become bad. Your children have the potential for good, but through spiritual and moral neglect they can become bad. Your influence has the potential for good, but through a lack of discipline and ethics, it can become bad.
God created a good man, Adam. Adam was created with the ability to choose to obey or disobey God. He chose to sin and therefore he became bad. This first man’s bad choice brought sin, suffering and sorrow into the world. What a different world it would be if he had chosen good rather than bad.
Each of us are what we are now; what we can become for good; or, what we can become for evil. The difficulty for the Christian is not choosing between good or bad, but choosing between what is good and what is best.
Sow a thought and reap a deed; sow a deed and reap a habit; sow a habit and reap a character; sow a character and reap a destiny; and, it all begins with a thought.
